Paris Brest Paris: The Long Ride 18th October 2011
The 1200 kilometre Paris-Brest-Paris is legendary amongst long-distance cyclists. First organised in 1891, it is one of the world’s oldest cycle events. Riders have to complete the distance in under ninety hours, including any stops for rest and recuperation.
Over the years, many cyclists have chosen to ride P-B-P on Moulton bicycles, seeing them as ideal for this type of riding - being both fast and comfortable. Successful Moulton riders include Ray Craig, Nick Peregrine, Jacques Bilinski and Chloe Williams (Chloe being the youngest female finisher in 2003).
In August this year, Judith Swallow (on AM20-2) and Dave Minter (on TSR 30) successfully completed both P-B-P events - 'audax' (riding in group) and 'randonneur' (individual). Judith, one of the top female long-distance cyclists, was appointed as a ‘Ride Captain’ for the 'audax' event – a rare honour, and a first for an English-speaker.
Judith and Dave spoke a little about their P-B-P journey at the Moulton Bicycle Club Weekend in September, and you can learn more about their experiences in this radio interview (courtesy of The Bike Show) ParisBrestParis and on Judith’s blog: judithswallow.wordpress.com

Colin heads to the Himalayas 17th August 2011
Colin Martin is somewhat of a Moultoneering legend. Back in 1970 he began a journey from Bradford-on-Avon on a Moulton Marathon that took him right across Europe and Asia. Making light work of Kurdish mountains, the Khyber Pass, and Calcuttan street markets, he made it all the way down to Australia. A second trip saw him cross the North American continent, after which he was happy to describe the trusty Moulton as "the best touring bike in the world".
Colin's cycling adventures continue now as he leaves warm southern tropical beaches, and heads into the Himalayas. He's made it to Ladakh, "the Land of the High Passes" and colourful Tibetan alleyways. As Colin copes with altitude sickness and irate dogs, you can follow his progress from the comfort of your armchair through his website www.greenbicycle.com

Moulton Sixty:
A Remarkable Bicycle for a Remarkable Man 9th April 2010
Dr. Alex Moulton was born on April 9th 1920, and, ninety years later, The Moulton Bicycle Company has created a special bicycle to mark the occasion. This bicycle, the first result of 'Project Sixty', was presented by the company to Alex Moulton on his ninetieth birthday, in celebration of his astonishing contribution to the bicycle industry.
This bicycle is an all-stainless steel interpretation of the enduringly popular 'F'-frame design that was pioneered by Alex Moulton in 1962. The bicycle shares some of its features with the latest Moulton Speed, including the use of Reynolds 953 stainless steel and detailed improvements to the legendary Moulton leading link front suspension.
Built by The Moulton Bicycle Company's highly-skilled silver brazers, this is the first 'F'-frame bicycle to be created at the Bradford on Avon factory for over thirty years. It is equipped with a two-speed 'Duomatic' hub gear, original Moulton 17" wheels and a rather special Brooks leather saddle. |

Alex Moulton's Memoirs now available 12th Feb 2010
Dr. Alex Moulton's memoirs have recently been published by Rolls Royce Heritage.
"In this new book, Dr. Alex Moulton recounts, in his own words, his lifetime in engineering. The whole story – from building steam cars as a teenager, and working under Roy Fedden at Bristol Aeroplane, through the development of rubber suspension systems that led to collaboration with BMC, Dunlop and Sir Alec Issigonis in the creation of Hydrolastic and Hydragas, to the revolutionary Moulton bicycle that, together with the Mini, became an icon of the swinging sixties – is told in Dr. Moulton’s characteristic direct style."
The Memoirs are available for purchase on-line at the following link... Alex Moulton Books. |

New SPEED is the lightest Moulton yet 15th Oct 2009
The new Moulton SPEED is the first production Moulton bicycle to weigh in at less than 20lb (9.1kg)- quite some feat for a full-suspension road bike.
As befits a special bicycle, the Moulton SPEED is equipped with Campagnolo Super Record components, and is fitted with Moulton's own seat pillar and handlebar stem in Reynolds 953. The distinctive spaceframe design is constructed entirely from stainless steel. Every joint is silver-brazed, and the entire frameset is laboriously polished to mirror finish. With no paint to scratch, the Moulton SPEED can be returned to 'as new' condition with the application of metal polish.
The time-honoured combination of the low aerodynamic drag, the rapid acceleration afforded by the small wheels, the low rolling resistance and the superlative comfort of the well-proven Moulton suspension, make the Moulton SPEED a perfect choice for the performance-orientated Sportive rider as well as those who just want to go out for a blast round the lanes.
The Moulton SPEED will be available from mid-2010. |

Kick-shift in the City with the New TSR-2 10th Oct 2009
City cycling just got a whole lot easier and smoother with the new Moulton TSR-2. As clean in lines as a fixie, the TSR-2 has a surprise in store- the new Sturmey Archer S2C 'kick-shift' hub. This two-speed hub, shown for the first time to the public at the London Cycle show, offers an overdrive gear in addition to direct drive. There are no control cables- shifting is achieved by a light back-pedalling action. Further back-pedalling activates the integral coaster brake.
To further reduce maintenance and adjustment requirements, the TSR-2 is equipped with a belt-drive transmission. Unlike chains, the belt is clean and does not scretch, so no adjustment is required to take up slack. Efficiency is as high as a chain in good condition, and a belt is always in good condition! With no gear cable, rear brake cable, or chain to adjust, there is little that the everyday cyclist has to do to keep his TSR-2 running sweetly.
The TSR-2 will be available from mid-2010.

TOUR SR and TSR9 SE on show at BOA 21st Sept 2009
Over September 12th-13th, Moultoneers from across Britain, Europe and the world gathered in Bradford on Avon for the annual Moulton Bicycle Club weekend. In the picturesque surroundings of The Hall, the Moultoneers enjoyed bright September sunshine and a procession of bicycles old and new including some lovingly-restored examples of Moulton history which were discussed by a panel headed by Dr. Alex Moulton.
Amongst the many interesting bicycles, Moultoneers were able to view the new TOUR SR and Special Edition TSR-9 Moultons, on display for the first time. The TOUR SR shares a similar specification to the TSR-30, with additional comfort provided by the Brooks Swift titanium leather saddle, Brooks leather handlebar tape and mudguards fitted as standard. There's also a light tubular stainless steel water bottle cage. The Special Edition TSR-9 is based on a model produced this year for Moulton's Japanese distributor, Dynavector Systems. It features chrome plated front and rear forks, Brooks leather saddle and handlebar grips, and a quill-type handlebar stem from Nitto.

Japan Summit 2009 8th June 2009
On the 6th and 7th of June 2009 over 160 Moultoneers from all over the world gathered in Nagano for the Japan Moulton Summit. This summit has been a highlight of the Moulton Calendar for many years, with this year being special in that the group celebrated 25 years of the Moulton Bicycle in Japan.
In 1984, the late Dr. Tominari of Dynavector Systems, impressed by the new 'AM' bicycle, visited Dr. Moulton at Bradford on Avon. As a result, Dynavector Systems began to import the Moulton into Japan and it quickly acquired a fanatical following amongst the design-conscious Japanese. To honour this anniversary, Shaun Moulton, on behalf of the Moulton Bicycle Company, presented Jiro and Taro Tominari with a solid silver model of a Moulton Deluxe. This exquisite model was hand-crafted by Orton Jewellers in Bradford on Avon.
