These models form part of the story of innovative engineering, distinctive design, and pioneering vision that have made Dr Alex Moulton's bicycles renowned around the world.\u003c\/p\u003e","products":[{"product_id":"moulton-deluxe-m2-1964","title":"Deluxe M2","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBuilt in 1964, this is an outstanding example of a Series 1 Moulton deluxe, finished in Polychromatic Holly Green (this colour being somewhat rarer than the Kingfisher Blue that the majority of deluxes were produced in).\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is evident that this bicycle has seen very little use, if any use at all.  There is some patina on the chrome, but this should easily polish out.  There are some storage marks (notably on the front fork), but given the age (over sixty years old), this bicycle is in remarkable condition.  Being a late Series 1, chromed steel Phillips pattern all-rounder handlebars are fitted, along with a chromed steel stem and Philips Vox Populi steel brakes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ‘pigeon wing’ chromed steel chainguard is present, and is showing a little corrosion.  Only late Series 1 deluxes were fitted with these rare items.  The chrome mudguards are in very good condition, and the zipped Arrowsmith bag is almost unmarked.  Even the saddle shows no sign of wear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe factory fit Sturmey-Archer GH6 dynohub lighting is very neatly installed, with the steel tube behind the head tube carrying the cables and even the plastic sleeve running along the top of the main beam is present and in very good condition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is very rare to see an unrestored deluxe in anything like this good condition.  There are a few parts missing from the original specification – the bell, the front carrier, and the pedals. It should be relatively easy for the new owner to replace these.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThis bicycle will be supplied with a \"Alex Moulton Heritage Collection\" Certificate of Authenticity.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Moulton Bicycles","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58392136188249,"sku":"HC32-4","price":1000.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0968\/3986\/0569\/files\/moulton-heritage-deluxe-m2-polychromatic-holly-green.jpg?v=1782316969"},{"product_id":"am-gt-duomatic","title":"AM GT Duomatic","description":"\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eThe original AM GT model – Moulton’s first stainless-steel bicycle – was launched at the Royal Society of Arts in June 1992.  Motivated by a desire to further improve his bicycle, and to reduce reliance on a single source of frame tubing, the AM GT was built using aerospace hydraulic tubes.  The AM GT had several refinements over other models (such as the Jubilee), including a revised centre joint and rear pivot, stiffer front forks, a softer rear spring, and a titanium seat pillar.  AM GTs were typically built in a 2 x 8 derailleur specification with drop handlebars, although a very limited number were built with flat handlebars or the upturned ‘Loveday’ handlebars.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThis AM GT is possibly unique in that it has been built with a\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSachs Duomatic two-speed\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003erear hub – as used on the AM2. \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWe are not aware of another being built in this specification. \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eThe frame and front fork are the same as a derailleur specification AM GT (and the frame has the plate for mounting down tube shifters), whilst the rear fork is specifically designed and built for hub gearing – AM2 type dropouts (modified for 3\/8” seat stays) and the chainstays are cranked inwards to bring the hub width down to 115mm.  There are cable stops brazed on to the rear fork so it may be possible to fit a different type of hub gear if desired, provided it is suitably narrow.  However, we consider that the Sachs Duomatic – as used by Colin Martin to cycle to Australia in 1970 – is the perfect fit for this unique bicycle.  Duomatic hubs now command high prices in their own right, as do Moulton AM2s, which are rare and hard to find. \u003cbr\u003e  \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe wheels are, of course, 17”.  The Wolber tyres appear to be in good condition and there is no sign of any rim wear, suggesting limited use.  Other components include a Shimano Ultegra Octalink crankset, Shimano 105 SC front brake, Shimano 600 headset, and a Hope titanium front hub.  The Moulton finishing kit comprises a quill-type wishbone stem, a custom (Moulton) stainless-steel straight handlebar, and a Reynolds titanium seat pillar with Suntour two-bolt adjustable saddle top.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eAn original AM GT day carrier is fitted, along with black mudguards.  Topping all of this is a leather\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLepper Voyager saddle\u003c\/strong\u003e.  These leather saddles were designed by Alex Moulton, and used a saddle underframe manufactured in Reynolds 531 steel to reduce weight – and this weight reduction was very significant as a Voyager tips the scales at only 300 grammes, approximately half the weight of a Brooks B17.  Of course, Brooks introduced titanium-railed saddles but even they weigh 75g more than a Voyager.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, early Voyagers were quite fragile and rails and noses would break, so an intact Voyager like this one is now very rare indeed, and an unusual part of Moulton history – the perfect complement to this unique bicycle.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eTaken as a whole, this is a highly unusual and potentially unique example of the AM GT. The combination of Duomatic transmission, low apparent use, and a number of rare original components gives it considerable historical interest.
